Thermoplastic Elastomers for Hard/soft Combinations
The combination of a hard and a soft material is being increasingly used for plastic solutions. These hard-soft solutions are manufactured with 2K injection moulding, and thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) are ideally suited as soft components, as these offer many advantages. TPEs are the ideal solution for many applications in order to integrate properties and functions. In addition to this, the adhesion-modified TPEs from TRINSEO make the use of undercoats superfluous.
TRINSEO TPEs are manufactured in the factory in Mussolente, Italy, and tailored products developed for multi-component injection moulding. The TPEs possess various properties, such as degrees of hardness, flow properties and finish, and are suitable not only for multi-component injection moulding and overmoulding.
As a specialist for TPE, TRINSEO is an active member in the VDI committee that redesigned and defined the test standard for 2K injection moulding parts. The VDI 2019 standard describes the testing of the adhesion of thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) to thermoplastic substrates. In our own overmoulding centre, test specimens according to the VDI 2019 standard are produced with a special 2K mould and tested with state-of-the-art laboratory technology.
