Xarec™ sPS (also PS-S or PS-M) is a semi-crystalline, high-performance plastic from Idemitsu. It is made from styrene, as is the case with polystyrene, although here a catalytic polymerisation method is employed using metallocene catalysts. Xarec™ combines the properties of polystyrene (PS), such as low weight, hydrolysis resistance, good workability and very good electrical properties, with good heat resistance and the chemical resistance of crystalline plastics.

The Xarec™ range includes unfilled and glass-fibre reinforced sPS grades, whereby the addition of glass fibres significantly improves the heat distortion resistance of the syndiotactic polystyrene (sPS). The glass-fibre reinforced Xarec™ grades have good soldering resistance, which makes them particularly suitable for electrical engineering applications.
