POM

Polyoxymethylene (POM)

Polyoxymethylene Copolymer (POM)

Engineering Plastic With Many Standards and Approvals

The polyoxymethylene copolymer (POM) has a linear structure that provides greater stability against thermal and oxidative degradation than acetal homopolymers. Its properties include high wear resistance, long-term fatigue resistance, toughness and creep resistance as well as excellent resistance to moisture, solvents and strong alkalis.

POM compounds are very tough, hard, stiff and easily colorable in the temperature range from -40 °C to 100 °C. They have a very good slide/friction behaviour, high resilience and high stress cracking resistance, which is why they are typically used as gearwheels.

Standards and Approvals of Polyoxymethylen

POM is characterised by the fact that many grades comply with the standards relevant to industry, such as those of the FDA (the American Food and Drug Administration) and the EU regulations regarding suitability for food contact (2002/72 EC). Many standard products also pass the drinking water test according to WRAS, KTW and NSF.

Application Areas of POM

The application areas for polyoxymethylene are diverse and range from cogwheels, sliding and guide elements as well as valve bodies in mechanical engineering, fuel pumps and loudspeaker grilles as well as air vents in the automotive sector to the large field of clips and fasteners.

K.D. Feddersen offers you a very versatile portfolio of polyoxymethylene copolymers containing emission-optimised, hot diesel-resistant, impact-modified, glass-fibre-reinforced and glass-bead-reinforced grades.
