A winning combination for 15 years
September 1, 1994, marked the start of a partnership between the Hamburg-based Feddersen Group and the Bavarian provider of logistics services Hans Geis GmbH & Co. headquartered in Bad Neustadt/Saale. The foundation for the successful partnership was laid with the closing of K.D. Feddersen’s own decentralised regional warehouses and the joint construction of a European central warehouse in Salz/Lower Franconia.
Today, the members of the Feddersen Group store 3,500 to 5,000 t of product on average in Salz — primarily plastics pellets from K.D. Feddersen GmbH & Co. KG, the Hamburg-based distributor of engineering thermoplastic polymers, and the Niederzissen-based plastics compounder AKRO-PLASTIC GmbH, also a member of the Feddersen Group. The products are warehoused according to batch. Every month, some 1,000 shipments leave the central warehouse, taking the quickest route to plastics-processing operations all over Europe.
Storage capacity in Salz was getting tight, so in autumn 2008, construction began on a brand-new, expandable warehouse covering 7,500 square metres of floor space. At the end of May 2009, all warehousing activities for the Feddersen Group were relocated to the new space. “The new facility makes Salz an even more attractive logistics centre for us,” explains Rainer Berger, Head of the Logistics department in the Feddersen Group.
Just in time to mark the 15th anniversary, the partnership between the Feddersen Group and Geis Global Logistics has been prominently showcased. Since January 2009, five trailers displaying an advertising message for K.D. Feddersen and AKRO-PLASTIC can be seen crisscrossing the roads of Europe.
